1945 saw some of the bloodiest fighting in the whole of the war in the struggle for Berlin, but the war can only end with Germany's defeat at this stage. The Red Army bulldozers the German forces by weight of numbers and firepower, while the Allies in the West continue to press on, continuing the second front Germany cannot afford to have. After Germany's defeat and celebration throughout Europe, bitter fighting continues in the Pacific over the islands leading to Japan's homeland. America's huge war machine pulverises Japan's cities, but still resistance continues until America uses the most powerful weapons man has ever created. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are both devastated, each with just a single nuclear bomb, and Japan capitulates. The Second World War is finally over.
