Prelude to War

The storm clouds really start to gather in 1938, as Germany starts to show it's true Nazi ideals with the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland, the beginnings of Hitler's "Grossdeutcshland" vision that would eventually leave millions dead from every quarter of the globe. Britain and the League of Nations continually bow to pressure from the strong Nazi leadership in order to keep peace in Europe. Military development is at a premium over many European countries, Britain included - the Luftwaffe have already blooded their machines in the Spanish Civil War, giving them combat experience to improve their already modern aircraft, as well as experienced fighter and bomber crews. Britain's biplane fighters are simply no match for the new Bf-109s, nor even as fast as the new monoplane bombers Germany has, such as the "Flying Pencil" Dornier Do-17. New aircraft like the Hawker Hurricane are not ready in sufficient numbers in operational squadrons to replace the aging RAF force, and others such as the Supermarine Spitfire are still in development. Europe is not prepared for war in the way Germany will bring it to them in 1939 and 1940, and political backstepping only strengthens Hitler's goals.
